Long time since this project file has been opened, and now I have opened it I want to spend the rest of the day playing with the designs!
Too much space between blocks, no quilting on most designs, and not enough birds in the orchard to live up to the title!
The designs have potential but need some playtime.
We lived in one house for 15 years with two apple trees in the garden, and it was not until the last year that I found some ripe apples which had fallen off the trees into the massed agapanthus below them ...
This project file was crated during a state guild quilt exhibition where I had been asked to demonstrate the Electric Quilt program. I started a new project, added some blocks and kept rearranging them while talking to passing visitors, sometimes about the program I was using, sometimes about what had happened in our lives since we last met, sometimes about how to change a block from a straight to an on point setting, how old our children were, where did I find the fabrics in the program … just an ordinary conversation with passersby at a quilt exhibition when designing quilts ...
Lots of space to quilt! I think I would basically cross hatch, but add a few flying birds swooping and gliding over the surface.
No birds on the second design, but the little fountains and the apple trees are sure to attract them sometime.
Again, lots of space to quilt, and once again I would keep it simple, with straight lines echoing those narrow borders, and yes, those birds would be flying around.
The last couple of days I have noticed a lot of birds flying around in addition to the few small birds which fly around the garden catching ...
Something a bit different … I usually think of double, queen and king size beds when playing with quilt designs, but one day I added some singles to the project file I was playing with.
